On a cold winter night in a fancy stadium with special seats that are warmed for you we watched the Japanese team play in the FIFA Club World Cup in Toyota Stadium, Toyota City.
Final Score Urawa Red Diamonds 3 def Sepahan 1. Not really a close match and we did a lot of shivering, but it was a lot of fun

A crappy on field shot

The photo does not do it justice. Watching the fans in action is an unmissable part of the show

Well we say goodbye to some of our best friends here in Japan, Pete and Min. Looking back we have done so much with them. From trips to Osaka, various festivals, to White water rafting, Hanami parties, to Parker's birthday through to BBQ's and Cranium we have enjoyed having friends living down the road.
Next time we see them will be at their wedding in Adelaide. See you in November!
A quick trip to..Nagano 10 Oct 2007
Monica and Bartek organised a trip to a resort in Nagano for some relaxation and to see the colourful autumn leaves. It was terrific of them to co-ordinate it , especially with 20 odd people for meals and accommodation. We had a lot of fun so thanks guys.We stayed at a resort in Nagano prefecture owned by Toyota called Terrace Tateshina (Got the company discount!) . It was a terrific location and made me want to go back to Nagano. Just when I was getting to the point where I could not think of a really beautiful place that was unspoiled by industry, Monica brought us here. The resort is located in a National Park and there was not a powerline to be seen and an absolutely beautiful view from the dining room. Around the area was a small lake and some terrific scenery.
The area must be famous for it's apples as there were shops everywhere with apples for sale.
Lake Tateshina, home of the swan boats and a very pretty little location
OK the story her is that we got lost looking for a seven-eleven. A five minute trip took us an hour, but we did end up driving trough a field where the farmer had lined his road with an assortment of scarecrows. Here is Peter posing with Totoro.

Parker came with us on the trip. Poor Jan who sat in the back of the car had to fend with Parker's load breathing the whole way!

Jan sent us this photo....hmm.... Parker does like to stick his nose in your ear.

I have found another interesting story in the paper today. The article mentions two trains. The "other" train referred to is one I know well, as it dominates the entry hall of the war museum at Yasakuni Shrine. You can see a photo of it on my Tokyo page."SHIZUOKA: 'River Kwai' train back up and running
10/08/2007 THE ASAHI SHIMBUN
SHIMADA--The steam locomotive which during World War II ran on the Thai-Burma Railway featured in the film "The Bridge on the River Kwai" went back into service for the first time in four years on Sunday, railway officials said. The C-56-44 locomotive was built in Kobe 1936 and shipped to Thailand in 1941. It was one of two C-56s that were returned to Japan in 1979, after which it was put into service along the Oigawa railway line here. In 2003, it was taken out of service for repairs. In an unusual move, the C-56-44 engine's boiler was replaced with a similar one from a C-12 locomotive. The boiler and tender were repainted green, the same color it wore on the Thai railway after the war. (IHT/Asahi: October 8,2007) " - Source Article on Asahi Shimbun online.
