Toyota Plant Tour/Kaikan Exhibition Hall

I had not been on a tour before. Min's father, Barry, had just come over for a visit so they were kind enough to invite me along.

Kaikan Exhibition Hall

The Toyota Kaikan Exhibition Hall is the starting point for Toyota Factory tours. The hall has a number of rooms promoting Toyota's eco friendliness, their latest model cars and some of their new car concepts. It was quite interesting.

Kaikan Exhibition Hall - Show time

The short show was rather cheesy, but funny

Toyota Partner Robot played some tunes

Then two ladies did a demonstration of the i-unit. The demonstration involved a fake story of them meeting and going to the beach. I found it quite funny as they mimed their way through it.

Toyota Plant Tour

Surprisingly Toyota do not permit you to take photos on the factory tour. So I will try to describe it. The tour sometimes goes to different factories, but be went to Motomachi, the plant that dominates the screen of my Navi whenever I drive into Toyota city up the 153.

We visited the huge Motomachi plant. (Actually the main mother plant for the Toyota Australia plant).

First.we visited the welding robots. They are amazing to watch as they dance around each other as they complete their tasks before waiting for the next car to come along. I had seen the robots in action in Melbourne and was a bit ho-hum at this stage.

Next we went to the assembly area. This just astonished me. The plant in Australia makes Camry's, but here they made about eight different cars at once. The pieces for each car headed off to different areas and then came back just when they were required. The automation and the amazing hard work were incredible to watch. We definitely dragged our feet as we were reluctant to stop watching the work.

The final stop was a kids games area with little tests that you could try that had been designed by workers from inside the factory. It was a bit of fun and a cute way to end the tour.

Highly recommended.
