"Toki Premium Outlets" Mall

Toki premium outlets is themed as a "Colorado ski village". It set on top of a rise above the town of Toki about half an hour drive from Meito-ku in Nagoya. it had pretty good shopping for expats as some stores such as GAP and Timberland carry larger sizes than they do in their downtown stores.

Toki Outlets - April 2007

Official Website

The official website contains a map and a list of stores

We have shopped at Toki a number of times now. It is significantly quieter early in the day and going early avoids the afternoon car park queues.

As usual a bit of traffic management

"In Spring 2005 Toki was in the national news in Japan when an outlet mall was opened on the outskirts of the city. Malls are a relatively rare thing outside the major cities of Japan, and the city was brought to a standstill after a nationwide advertising campaign attracted people from all over Japan." - Wiki

The outlet mall is located on a hill overlooking the town of Toki. The view from the Mall can be amazing, especially in winter when you see all the snow capped mountains.

Very tidy

We tried MOS burgers for the first time at the outlet food court. MOS Burger is the second biggest burger chain in Japan after McDonalds and is Japanese owned. Actually really good. MOS have a reputation for freshness and you can really taste it compared to McDonalds. The price of freshness is in delivery speed (they are not the fastest in the world.) As usual check the MOS Wiki page for further reading

Museum of Modern Ceramic Art Gifu - 4 Jan 2007

About 5 minutes drive from Toki outlets, the ceramics museum has an average museum, but a great little restaurant.

The Gifu region just outside of Nagoya is internationally famous for its ceramics. Luckily for us the center of the ceramics industry is at Tajimi, only a few minutes from the Toki outlet mall.

The recently completed Museum of Modern Ceramic Art in Ceramic Park MINO was our first attempt to have a look at some of this regional pottery.

Well my review has to be that 1) the french restaurant is great. 1,800 yen lunch set, nice view and enjoyable food. 2) the little shop is fantastic and full of locally made pottery, 3) the MINO building is modern and interesting. but 4) the temporary exhibition that we saw was just ok and at 800 yen each a pit pricey. I recommend lunch and shopping only.
