Inuyama.castle 犬山城
Inuyama 犬山 (Innu-yama)= dog MountainInuyama is about 35 minutes by car from our house and is inland from Nagoya. We had tried to go to the castle previously, but there was a festival and we could not get in. Inuyama-jo is the oldest original wooden castle in Japan, but.....heavily reconstructed over the years. The donjon was actually moved from another castle in the 1600s
It was a pleasant side trip to see the castle. It didn't take long which suited us.

leading up to the castle.
From the gatehouse. The keep is one of the few undamaged castles in Japan and is very old. Hard to determine a date as it was rebuilt a couple of times.

For a detailed history of the castle see the relevant Samurai-Archives page.
