Tsumago and Takayama.Day trip

Tsumago and Takayama.17 August 2006

Tsumago is a historic town in the Kiso Valley in the mountains, near Nagano.  It is quite beautiful and well worth a visit.  The drive from Nagoya is pretty, once it gets near the valley, it is very much ski country.

We arrived mid morning, parked the car for 500 yen, borrowed, (for free), umbrellas from the parking office and went for a walk.  You can walk between towns in the valley but it was over 30 degrees even with the rain, so we decided that walking around the town was enough.

The town is not a fake tourist town.  People still live there and you walk past all sorts of shops

We found some shops more interesting that others.  Pam and Jan consider the "Pumpkin shop"

Heading out of town

It is hot, lets go back to the car.

after lunch - A crazy trip to Takayama

Well we made a decision, that around 240km was only a few hours drive (it would be in Australia), but here, more like 4 hours. This was the trip that made us re-evaluate time/distance calculations. Now I work at 60-65km per hour at best when calculating how long a trip will take. BE WARNED!!!! - Anyway see our photos of Takayama here.
